Nowadays due to work and personal commitments, we spend a lot of time on the road. Driving conditions are not always favorable. There are plenty of obstacles to be avoided, debris on the roadways, potholes and poorly maintained streets and highways are just a few examples.
Wheels can normally stand the gentle hits and bumps but every once in a while some unexpected road hazard can leave you with much needed repairs or replacements to your tires.
Any tyre no matter how well constructed, can get damaged to the extend that it would get bent or even cracked. This will happen due to improper driving that will cause hitting the curb or sidewalk or even hitting a pothole in poorly maintained roads.
Tyre failure may result in a risk of property damage or serious personal injury including loss of your life.
To reduce risk of tyre failure, we strongly recommend the followings:
1) CHECK the air pressure in all your tyres, including the spare, frequently when tyres are cool (when your vehicle has been driven less than a few kilo-meters or after being stopped for three or more hours).
Don’t reduce air pressure when tyres are hot from driving: use a tyre gauge to check the pressure and maintain it at the level recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
2) NEVER overload your tyres.
The maximum loan carrying capability of your tyre is molded on the sidewall of each tyre.
3) CHECK your tyres regularly for scrapes, bulges, separations, cuts snags or embedded foreign objects.
Show the tyres your store or dealer immediately if any such condition is discovered.
4) NEVER operate your vehicle in excess of lawful speeds, beyond maximum speeds determined by driving conditions or at speeds greater than recommended for the tyre you are using.
5) MAKE every effort to avoid driving over objects that may damage the tyres through impact or cutting such as potholes, glass, metal etc.
6) NEVER drive on smooth tyres (bold tyres).
Always remove tyres from service and replace them when they reach the remaining 1.6m/m of the tread depth.
Tread wear indicators are built into the tyres to indicate when they are worn to 1.6 m/m. In most countries, it is illegal to drive the tyres with less than 1.6 m/m remaining thread depth.
7) ALWAYS make sure that the tyres are of the correct size. The correct size can be found in your vehicle manual or if in doubt, check with the service centre or places which changes or repairs tyres.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION is molded on the tyre sidewall.
Among other information, the sidewall information contains the type, size, load range, rotation, maximum loan and maximum pressure for that particular tyre.
